For those who have the money, a penthouse apartment is one of the most luxurious living spaces that can be enjoyed. Normally, a penthouse is located on the uppermost floor of an apartment building or complex. It is a self-contained unit; offering the renter or owner all of the standard amenities that one can expect. However, penthouses also provide an added sense of luxury with such accommodations as all-inclusive room service, a walk-in bar and at times, even a private chef. Also, a penthouse will more often than not provide some truly spectacular views of the surrounding region. It is for this reason that when one normally envisions of the location of a penthouse, urban centers such as those found in New York, Tokyo or Paris often come to mind.
From a real estate perspective, these locations are generally available to only high-end customers that can afford a substantial financial outlay. As the rent on such properties can run into the thousands or even the tens of thousands per month, these prices will normally preclude the average individual fro becoming involved. Still, others will look at a penthouse as a lucrative investment opportunity for the long-term. This is due to the fact that even in times of crisis, the value of such a pristine location will rarely drop (as the extremely wealthy are rarely affected by such a downturn). While this is not always the case, it is quite unlikely for the price of this property to drop significantly during times of economic stagnation.
