The town of Mareeba is situated on the Atherton Tableland in the state of Queensland. The town is home to around seven thousand people and can be found at the point where the Barron River meets Emerald Creek and Granite Creek.
This historic town is famous for its historic buildings and some of the best examples are Mareeba Shire Hall on Walsh Street, the Tyrconnel Mine and Battery and the Rail Bridge that spans Christmas Creek. A number of exciting events are held in the town of Mareeba throughout the year and these are good occasions for the residents to get together and have fun. The Mareeba Rodeo has been held in the month of July in the pretty Davies Park since 1949 and features several events such as the Rodeo Princess competition, several parades and the rodeo itself, which can be witnessed in the large and lovely Kerribee Park.
Nature lovers will want to take the time to explore the Mareeba Wetlands, which are situated just under seven kilometres from the heart of the town. This picturesque nature reserve was specially created to protect the local bird population and boasts several great walking tracks as well as bird watching stations and unforgettable boat tours. Tours of a local coffee plantation are also offered at the Skybury Coffee Centre, which is open daily.
